The West African Development Bank (WADB) has financed more than 700 public and private development projects in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) zone, according to its Secretary General, Sékou Sylla.
Speaking at the opening, on Monday evening, of a seminar for the Togolese economic journalists,
Sylla said as at 30 June 2014, the bank had financed over 700 projects at a cost of 3.1 trillion CFAF for eight member countries – Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Togo.
The financing cover the agricultural and rural development, telecommunications, road and port infrastructure, electricity and industry sectors.
Sylla said the bank is considering giving priority to the governments and the private sector in its second strategic plan, which it has just adopted and will cover the period 2015-2018.
WADB, set up on 14 Nov. 1973 with its seat in the Togolese capital, Lomé, is an international public institution with the goal to “promote the balanced development of member countries and to achieve West Africa’s economic integration” through the financing of priority development projects.
