Tunisia: ALKIMIA sees production fall 33% in H1 2021

Production of the Chemical Company ALKIMIA declined by 33% in the first of half of 2021 to 23,140 tons of Sodium Tri-Polyphosphate (STPP)

This is what emerged from the activity indicators of the company published on the website of the Tunis Stock Exchange.

“This level of production has remained, for more than five years, below the nominal production capacity of the Plant due to the decline in demand on the international market and the loss of important customers after the various declarations of Force Majeure due to forced stoppages of production units in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, for lack of phosphoric acid,” noted the company.

It added that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the Company’s activity, due to the drop in overall demand from STPP and the slowdown in sales compared to forecasts.

As for raw material prices, including in particular phosphoric acid, they have risen sharply at the end of June 2021. Established in 1972, ALKIMIA is a fully exporting company with a production capacity of 140,000 tons of STPP per year.
