Tunisia: Banknotes and coins in circulation hit a record high of over TND 21 billion

The value of banknotes and coins in circulation (BCCs) in Tunisia has reached an all-time high, exceeding 21 billion dinars for the first time.

According to daily data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), the value of BCCs stood at 21.2 billion dinars on February 27, an increase of 2.3 billion dinars compared with the same date last year.

The volume of BCCs has risen significantly since the second half of last year, having exceeded 20 billion dinars for the first time at the end of June last year.

Several factors have contributed to the increase in the volume of money in circulation in Tunisia, including the large proportion of our economy that operates outside the official banking system and the economic and political uncertainty.
