Tunisia: train sets ordered from Korea for SNCFT arrive at port of Sfax

A first contingent of train sets to strengthen the passenger fleet in the suburbs of Tunis and the Sahel arrived Friday in a ship at the commercial port of Sfax.

The convoy of four cars that will be followed in a month by another 4 cars is part of a contract between the Tunisian National Railways Company (SNCFT) and Korean company Hyundai Rotem.

The 4 cars will make up an electric train with a capacity of 850 to 1,000 passengers. It can travel at 120 km / hour.

The deal between SNCFT and Hyundai Rotem whose cost amounts to 88 million dates back to 2010. It provides for the purchase of 19 trains, some of which have been operated in the Sahel region since 2010 and others in the suburbs of Tunis since 2012.
