Loans totaling 20 million dinars will be granted by the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS) to small farmers to help them harvest, transport and process olives, under a joint circular signed on Thursday by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Fisheries and the BTS to finance the olive harvest season for the 2024-2025 crop year.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, the circular “aims to support small farmers by granting them loans to facilitate the harvesting, transport and processing of olives, in addition to subsequent agricultural work”.
The ministry added that this program is part of efforts to better control olive oil prices and guarantee the quality of this product.
According to the same source, the BTS has earmarked these funds for the implementation of this program, in coordination with the Regional Agricultural Development Commissions and the Bank’s local branches, in order to monitor the implementation of the loans granted and to overcome any obstacles that small farmers may encounter.
