Tunisia: Chamber of Commerce and Industry of North-West tries to save Sumitomo

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the North-West held a meeting at the headquarters of the Tunisian employers’ organization in an attempt to save the Japanese group Sumitomo’s new projects in the Jendouba region.

Named after its founder, who came from a samurai family, the group has recently been trying to set up a new project in Tunisia, or rather an extension, but has run into difficulties.

This is essentially a regulatory problem caused by a restrictive interpretation of the texts governing the allocation of land in an industrial zone for an investment that will create more than 2,500 jobs in Jendouba.

No one at government level seems to be able to resolve this problem and prevent the Japanese company from opening this extension in Romania or Morocco.

We understand that the case for this major expansion by Sumitomo E Bordnetze Tunisia has finally reached the ears of the head of the Tunisian government, Ahmed Hachani, and that a meeting will be dedicated to it on August 7.
