Cameroon: Portuguese firm to build rail line in Cameroon

A Portugese-based firm, Mota-Engil SGPS SA, is to build a 510 km railway line to connect Mbalam in eastern Cameroon to the southern port of Kribi.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Mota-Engil SGPS SA, Gilberto Rodrigues, the accord for the rail line has been signed between his company and Cam-Iron, represented by its CEO, Serge Asso’o.

According to the Cameroonian Prime Minister, Philemon Yang, the construction of Mbalam-Kribi rail line due to start in 2015 will take four years to complete.

The Portuguese firm has undertaken projects in several African countries including Malawi, Mozambique, Uganda, Angola, Zambia and Ghana.
