The Tunisian Ministry of Housing recently announced that the contract to build the new Bizerte Bridge has been awarded to Chinese contractor Sichuan Road & Bridge (Group) Co, Ltd for the sum of 620 million Tunisian dinars.
However, according to sources in the Bizerte governorate, this sum only covers two lots out of a total cost of the bridge project of TND 770 million.
These sources told AfricanManager that the groundbreaking ceremony for this project, which will reconfigure traffic flow and make it easier to enter and leave the city of Bizerte, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.
Sichuan Road and Bridge Group (SRBG) is a Chinese engineering company that builds civil engineering structures for national and international projects.
Through its subsidiary Sichuan Road & Bridge Mining Investment Development Corp. Ltd, it is also involved in gold mining.
