Tunisia: Economy grows 0.6% in 2nd quarter

The growth figures have just been released. According to the preliminary estimates of the Quarterly National Accounts prepared by the National Statistics Institute, in the second quarter of the current year, economic activity would have recorded a growth in real gross domestic product (adjusted for the effect of seasonal variations) of 0.6% compared to the same quarter of 2022, i.e. in year-on-year or annual variations, lower than the growth of the previous quarter (revised to 1.9%, compared to 2.1% initially).

In terms of quarterly variation (i.e. in relation to the first quarter of 2023), real GDP shows a negative change of -1.3%, compared to a growth of 0.7% in the previous quarter. All in all, given this trend, GDP growth for the first half of 2023 as a whole would be 1.2%.

The external balance contributed 0.35 percentage points, as the volume of exports of goods and services grew by 11.4%, slightly faster than imports (9.0%).
