Eva Joly, President of the Development Committee of the European Parliament said Tunisia’s debts are too heavy.
She added that the European Union must find a solution to stop the bleeding of the worsening debt volume. Eva Joly also proposed to convert the debt of 20 billion Euros into aid.
Eva Joly stated that the debts contracted by undemocratic regimes are not used in the national interest and this is the case of Tunisia. She insisted that these debts will impoverish the country and encourage the spread of jihadists.
Faced with the current situation of the country, aid is as urgent, she indicated, insisting that a court decision regarding misappropriated property belonging to Tunisia is needed, which will allow European countries to return the frozen funds of Trabelsi and Ben Ali.
