Remittances from Tunisian expats reached 6 billion dinars at the end of August, against 5.2 billion in 2021, up 858 million dinars (+16.5%), according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
These remittances in euros stood at 1.85 billion at the end of the first eight months of 2022 (monthly average of interbank market rates: 1 euro = 3.250 dinars).
These funds represent 2.2 times the tourism revenues earned during the first eight months of the current year, or 2.66 billion dinars, the equivalent of 820 million euros.
Expat remittances reached a record of 7.5 billion dinars in 2021, recording a growth of 28% compared to their level in 2020.
