Tunisia: government collects more than TND 17 billion in taxes in six months

The tax collected by the state during the first six months of this year stood at 17.5 billion dinars, against 14.7 billion during the same period last year, up 19%.

At this level, tax collection was consistent with forecasts with a rate of achievement of 50%.

According to the provisional results of the execution of the State Budget at the end of June 2022, this performance is linked to the good mobilization of revenue from corporate income tax, which increased by 37%, particularly from oil companies (+57%), as well as customs duties, which rose by 27%.

In fact, all categories of taxes have increased at sustained rates: taxes on wages (+11.4%), VAT (+19%), consumption rights (+14%) …

In addition, the first half of the current year has been marked by a control of public spending by the Ministry of Finance. Indeed, these expenditures have increased by only 1.6% compared to the same period last year.

As a result, the budget deficit has been significantly reduced to its lowest level since the first half of 2015, from nearly 2.8 billion dinars at the end of June 2021.
