Despite the impact of the Ukrainian crisis that has affected employment and inflation worldwide, remittances from the Tunisian diaspora continue to represent a vital source of foreign exchange revenue for Tunisia.
Indeed, remittances sent by Tunisians living abroad have reached a record of 8.5 billion dinars by the end of 2022, compared to 7.5 billion dinars in 2021, up 12%, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
In dollars, expat remittances amounted to 2.7 billion dollars (average annual rate of the dollar: 3.103 dinars).
For comparison, these remittances are twice as high as the tourism revenues achieved in 2022, or 4.3 billion dinars equivalent to 1.37 billion dollars.
