Tunisia: exports of manufacturing industries up 6%

Exports of the Tunisian manufacturing industries reached 20.5 billion dinars in value in 2011, compared with 19.3 billion dinars in 2010, up 6%, said Director General of the Industry and Innovation promotion Agency Ferid Tounsi.

“Most of the exports of manufacturing industries are directed to the European Union, first economic partner of Tunisia,” reminded, Mr. Tounsi at a periodic press briefing of the Prime Ministry.

“Tunisia is on the top of southern Mediterranean countries exporting manufactured products to the European Union, despite the special conditions experienced by the

country after the Revolution of January 14,” he underlined.

The country has 6,000 manufacturing companies, one third of which (two thousand) are foreign companies. They employ nearly 520 thousand Tunisians.
