Tunisia: Fisheries trade balance records surplus of 387 million dinars in 2024

The trade balance for fishery products achieved a surplus of 387 million dinars in 2024, posting an increase of 1.4% compared to 2023, according to the monitoring report “Foreign Trade of Fishery Products” published on Wednesday by the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI). 

The value of fishery product exports reached 846 million dinars in 2024, a slight increase of 0.1% compared to 2023. In terms of quantity, exports amounted to 36.5 thousand tons, reflecting a decline of 1.6% compared to the previous year. 

The average export price rose by 1.6% compared to 2023, reaching 23.2 dinars per kilogram, up from 22.8 dinars per kilogram in 2023. The most exported species were fish (16.8 thousand tons), canned and semi-preserved products (9.1 thousand tons), and crustaceans (8.3 thousand tons). 

Tunisian fishery product exports are distributed across 50 destinations. Italy is the top importer (27%), followed by Spain (17%) and Libya (12%). 

As for imports, their value decreased by 1.1% in 2024, settling at 459 million dinars.

Imported quantities declined by 5.9%, reaching 71.3 thousand tons. Import prices increased by 5.2% compared to 2023, reaching 6.4 dinars per kilogram.

The imported products are primarily fish (91%), as well as mollusks, canned, and semi-preserved products. 

The imported quantities are intended for processing (77%), consumption (20%), and aquaculture (3%).
