The Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) is preparing to export 20,000 tons of phosphate to Spain, followed by two shipments of 45,000 tons to Peru and 30,000 tons to Turkey in May.
The company said the first shipment of 30,000 tons of phosphate was exported to Turkey in January and another shipment of 35,000 tons is expected to be exported to the same customer in the next few days.
CPG hopes to produce 5.6 million tons of phosphate in 2023, knowing that phosphate production was 3.7 million tons in 2022 and that the government aims to increase this to 8 million tons in 2024 and 12 million tons in 2025.
For 2022, the company achieved a production of around 3.7 million tons, compared to a forecast of 6 million tons, a negative difference of 40.5%.
In total, Tunisia’s exports of commercial phosphate exceeded 90,000 tons last year, mainly to European and Asian markets, as part of a plan defined by the company to revive Tunisian phosphate exports by planning to supply 300,000 tons to foreign customers throughout 2022.
