Tunisia gets offers in 100,000 T soft wheat tender, traders say

The lowest price offered in the international tender from Tunisia’s state grains agency on Wednesday to purchase around 100,000 metric tons of soft wheat was believed to be $273.69 a ton cost and freight (c&f) included, according to initial assessments from European traders, reported by Reuters.

The lowest wheat offer was believed to have been submitted by trading house Casillo for 25,000 tons, they said.

Further estimates of prices and volumes are still possible.

Offers are still being considered and no purchase has yet been reported. The lowest offer is not always accepted if conditions attached to it are regarded as unattractive.

Casillo also made offers of $274.89 and $279.49 a ton c&f for other consignments sought in the tender, while Cargill offered 25,000 tons at $277.83 a ton c&f, the traders said.

Offers from other trading houses were over $280 to around $304 a ton c&f, they said.

The grain is sought in four consignments of 25,000 tons sourced from optional origins.

Shipment is sought between June 5 and June 30, depending on the origin selected.

In its last reported soft wheat tender on April 4, Tunisia’s state grains agency purchased about 75,000 tons at the lowest price of $232.95 a ton c&f.

Since then, wheat prices have risen to 10-month highs largely on concern about bad weather damaging the harvest in leading exporter Russia.
