Call to step up public-private partnership in pharmaceutical sector

Ways to step up the public-private partnership in the drugs and pharmaceutical industries, as well as promoting investment and exports, were the focus of a working session held on Thursday on the sidelines of the Investment Forum in Tunisia, held on June 12-13 in Tunis.

Health Minister Ali Mrabet reaffirmed on the occasion, the department’s commitment to supporting local and foreign manufacturers in the pharmaceutical industry, according to a ministry press release.

Mrabet pointed out that his department is endeavuring to set up a pharmaceutical system that is in step with modern developments, notably following the creation of the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products, through the development of the legal framework in order to bring it into line with international standards.

This, he said, would require the development of scientific research, the pharmaceutical industry, the sharing of expertise and the encouragement of investment in this field.

The Health Minister further underlined the need for close collaboration between all those involved in the pharmaceutical sector to set up laboratories to manufacture raw materials in order to cover Tunisia’s needs in serums and vaccines.
