Tunisia: Gold reaches unaffordable prices

President of the National Chamber of Jewelry Traders, Hatem Ben Youssef, has announced that the price of a gram of 24-carat gold has exceeded 300 dinars, which explains the weakness of demand.

Quoted by Assarih newspaper, he attributed the rise in the price of gold mainly to the fall in the dinar, pointing out that the cost of a gram is estimated at 224 dinars, with the addition of labor costs and the dealer’s profit margin, which is more than 300 dinars.

It should be noted that the value of the precious metal on the international financial markets exceeded 3,000 dollars an ounce on Friday, March 28, reaching a record high for the day for this value, which is more than ever a “safe haven”.

At its highest point on Friday, the price of gold broke through a symbolic barrier to reach $3,086.93 an ounce, an all-time record.  The yellow metal rose by 0.45% to stabilize at $3,070.9 an ounce.
