Togolese president re-elected UEMOA chairman

The Togolese president, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, was on Wednesday re-elected chairman of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) at the close of the 16th summit of the Union held in Lomé.

His term was renewed by acclamation, according to a statement issued at the end of the summit.

President Gnassingbé has been chairman of UEMOA, which groups French-speaking West African countries, since January 2011
