Tunisia: Government and UGTT Union set up joint committee

Tunisia’s labor union UGTT Secretary-General Houcine Abassi announced the setting up of a joint committee between the union and the government to look at several trade union issues.

This committee, whose works will start shortly, includes 5 members of the government and 5 UGTT delegates, Abassi said in a statement to the press after a working session held Monday between Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali, several ministers and UGTT Executive Committee members.

This committee, he added, will be entrusted with such issues as sub-contracting and the situation of workers in the tourism trade sector.

Abassi said the meeting had also provided the opportunity to stress the need to control prices, ensure efficiency of employment mechanisms, enforce general amnesty, work out a new social contract and take into account the draft Constitution suggested by the UGTT.
