Tunisia: grain production estimated at 18 million quintals in 2021-2022 season

Grain production in the 2021-2022 season is estimated at 18 million quintals, against 16.4 million quintals during the past campaign, up 9%, said the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.

This crop is divided into 11.35 million quintals of durum wheat (against 10.7 million quintals last season), 1.17 million quintals of soft wheat (same amount as last year), 5.2 million quintals of barley (against 4.3 million quintals) and 230 thousand quintals of triticale.

The northern governorates contribute to the tune of 91% to the national production while the irrigated areas estimated at 66 thousand hectares contribute 13%, with 2.3 million quintals.

According to the Ministry “the harvest has started in most governorates and will continue until mid-August with the use of about 2500 harvesters. 170 collection centers including 27 in the governorate of Siliana have been approved.

“13 thousand hectares dedicated to the production of certified seeds have been approved on 18 thousand hectares, knowing that this operation is continuing in some regions.
