Tunisia: investments reported in regional development areas down 13.9%

Investments reported in regional development areas fell 13.9% during the first seven months of 2012, reaching a value of about 954.5 million dinars (MTD) against 1,108.7 MTD during the same period of 2011.

The share of these areas in all governorates went down from 56.1% to 49.6% during the first seven months of 2012, according to the July newsletter of the Agency for Promotion of industry and innovation (APII).

This decrease is mainly due to the decline of investments reported in the governorate of Sfax, which reached 31.5 MTD against 148.5 MTD in the first seven months of 2011.

According to the same source, the governorate of Jendouba also experienced a drop in reported investment, which fell from 119 MTD over the first seven months of 2011 to 83.3 MTD during the first seven months of 2012.

Similarly, investments reported in the governorate of Kasserine fell from 107.3 MTD to 57.7 MTD.

This is also the case in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, where the reported investment declined from 107.5 million dinars to 58.9 million dinars in 2012.

Reported investments also fell in the governorate of Siliana, adds the APII.

They only reached 24.4 MTD against 66.3 MTD in the first seven months of 2011.

In contrast, the Governorate of Zaghouan posted an increase in reported investments, which totaled 248.3 MTD during the first seven months of 2012 against 199.1 MTD in 2011.

Similarly, investments reported in the governorate of Kef grew from 12.4 MTD to 29.4 MTD during the first seven months of 2012.
