The wife of former dictator Ben Ali fled Tunisia with 1.5 bar of gold, taken out December 19 in Tunis, a source of the Central Bank (BCT) told newspaper “Elmoussawer” on Monday.
The official said that the withdrawal of the quantities of gold took place on a holiday, and under the supervision of the governor of the central bank, by taking advantage of the presence of the same quantity of gold at the Bank of England on behalf of Tunisia.
It should be noted that the central bank had denied the information a few days after the flight of Ben Ali, claiming that the stocks of gold stored in its coffers, of 5.3 tons, have not changed for at least a decade.
