Power production saw a 2% increase at the end of September 2021, to 15,647 Gigawatt-hours GWh (excluding consumed self-production), from 15,271 GWh at the end of September 2020.
Similarly, power intended for the local market posted a growth of 12%, according to the report of the energy situation of September 2021, published by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines Thursday.
The peak went up 11% to 4,472 MW at the end of September 2021, from 4,030 MW at the end of September 2020. The new record peak was registered on August 11, 2021 (4,472 MW).
The Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG) holds the biggest share of power production with 84% of domestic production. Electricity generated from natural gas (STEG + IPP) grew 3%.
Power production from renewable energy sources stood at 2.4%, taking into account the production of power plants only.
Electricity sales rose 6% between the end of September 2020 and the end of September 2021. Therefore, the increase in sales to high-voltage customers was 21%, and for medium-voltage customers 7%.
As for low voltage sales, which are mainly intended for the residential sector (nearly 75% on average), the statistics based on bimonthly invoicing, of which nearly half is estimated, do not provide accurate data about actual consumption.
The industrial sector remains the largest consumer of electricity with 61% of total customer demand, the same report indicates.
