Tunisia: prices of fresh products down 4.5%

The price index of fresh food products recorded a downward trend during the first 15 days of Ramadan 2015, with a decrease of 4.5% compared to the first two weeks of June 2015.

Lotfi Khedhir, Special Adivser to the Ministry of Commerce told TAP news agency that this decline is explained by lower prices of fruit (14.4%) and vegetables (4.9%).

He also said prices of meat fell by 1.5% and eggs were down to their lowest level since June 2015, to 607 millimes (4 eggs).

The Department of Commerce has developed in collaboration with the National Statistics Institute (INS), a price index to track the evolution of prices in Ramadan.

This index is calculated twice a week through a cart that includes about 120 products.
