Tunisia: electronic platform for retail trade to be implemented from 2016

A new electronic platform for Tunisian retail trade will be established from 2016.

This was announced by Lazhar Bennour, director of e-commerce and virtual economy at the Ministry of Commerce to Africanmanager.

He said producers, distributors and traders will be affected by this new platform. Their number is estimated at 20,000.

He noted that the new platform is primarily intended to dematerialize trade documents while ensuring traceability of trade.

“This is a strategic move,” he said adding that “the aim is to end the phenomenon of smuggling that has continued to spread after the revolution, from 40% to over 65% today.

“This figure is more than ever a concern and requires the multiplication of efforts,” he said.

Bennour also noted that the preliminary study on that platform will soon be launched to guide this project, considered of primary importance and which impact will be positive on the commercial sector.

This new platform will be managed by a consortium of private operators and some public enterprises to ensure the desired effectiveness.
