Tunisia’s state grains agency (ODC) has purchased around 100,000 tons of soft wheat through an international tender held on July 21, exceeding the initially planned purchase volume of 75,000 tons, according to market consultancy UkrAgroConsult.
The wheat is scheduled for shipment between August 10 and September 9, depending on its country of origin.
The lowest accepted offer was $270 per tonne (C&F), while the highest reached $293.69 per ton (C&F).
The purchase prices were above those secured in the previous tender on June 4 when Tunisia bought 75,000 tons at $268.16 per ton (C&F).
According to traders, the increase in prices reflects heightened risks in the Black Sea region following attacks on port infrastructure and shipping routes.
The Tunisian authorities also reiterated that suppliers of wheat originating from the Black Sea region will not be permitted to invoke force majeure due to the war in Ukraine. Suppliers are required to fully honor their contracts or source the grain from alternative regions if necessary.
