Tunisia: reported investment in industry falls by 18% in January

Reported investments in industry posted a decline of 18.3% last January to 123.3 million dinars, compared to 151 million in January 2021 and 402.4 million in January 2020.

However, the number of projects reported in January went up 8.1% compared to 2021. Similarly, an increase in the number of jobs to be created of 48.9% was recorded.

By sector, investments reported in the leather and footwear industries and in the miscellaneous industries sector increased to 15.2 million dinars and 42.8 million dinars in January 2022, respectively.

On the other hand, the reported investments decreased in the sectors of construction materials, ceramics and glass industries (-80%), mechanical and electrical industries (-52%) and food processing (-46%).

For the reported investments in business creation, they decreased by 7.2% in January from 55.3 million dinars in January 2021 to 51.3 million.

As for the reported investments in the totally exporting industries, they rose from 40.5 to 57.8 million dinars between January 2021 and January 2022, up 42.7%.

In contrast, reported investments in industries targeting the local market fell by 40.8% to 65.4 million dinars, compared to 110.5 million in January 2021.
