Tunisia: Slight drop in industrial production in first 11 months of 2016

Production declined in the entire industry by 0.2%, against a 2.5% decrease in the same period of the previous year.

According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), this decrease is mainly due to the drop in production in the energy extraction industry (-8.5%), The food industry (-2.2%) and the rubber and plastic industry (-3.3%).

On the other hand, production increased in the manufacturing sector (+ 1.4%), following a rise in the chemical industry (+ 14.9%), the mechanical and electrical industry (+ 2%) and the oil refining industry (+ 8%).

In addition, production increased in the non-energy sector (+ 7.5%).

Moreover, industrial production decreased by 1.5% in November 2016, mainly due to the decline in production in the manufacturing sector (-2.4%) following the drop in petroleum refining (-66.2%), clothing and leather (-3.0%), chemical (-3.8%) and industrial Rubber and plastics (-7.8%).
