Undue payments of the Tunisian National Water Distribution Utility (SONEDE) amounted to 215 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) in the period 2011-2012.

Speaking on the waves of EXPRESS Fm on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, Hedi Belhaj, CEO of SONEDE said the company is also facing a deficit of 80 MTD and lost 10 MTD generated by acts of sabotage against the company’s facilities, particularly in the region of Gafsa.

Concerning the supply of water in summer 2013, Hedi Belhaj said that all measures have been taken to prevent water cuts, indicating that special efforts were made to increase the resources.

They basically involve building of Belli (Cap Bon) and Kalaat Kebira (Sousse) stations and drilling of six new deep wells in the governorate of Sfax, in addition to the four existing wells in the area.
