Tunisia: tourism revenues fall nearly 60 % to 150 million dinars

The persistence of the crisis due to the Coronavirus pandemic continues to weigh heavily on the tourism sector.

Income from tourism continued to fall at the beginning of the year, according to recent indicators published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

Indeed, tourism revenues stood at 150 million dinars in January 2021, compared to 363.7 million a year earlier, down 59%, or -213.7 million dinars.

The pandemic caused a drop in tourism revenues of 3.6 billion dinars (-64%), or the equivalent of €1.2 billion in 2020, from 5.6 billion dinars or the equivalent of €1.7 billion in 2019.
