Tunisia: TUNISAIR reports 7.3% growth in passenger traffic (8 months)

Passenger traffic of national flag carrier Tunisair reported an increase of 7.3% in the first 8 months of 2016, confirming a recovery that already began in the first quarter, and compared to the same period 2015, says a company statement released last Friday.

The month of August 2016 saw a 6.1% traffic increase compared to August 2015 and scheduled traffic rose 8.5%, from 1,736,502 to 1,884,149 passengers, while regular traffic posted an increase of 8.5% from 1,736,502 to 1,884,149 passengers, the company said, adding that the extra traffic grew from 32,654 to 39.669 passengers, up 21.5%.

As for charter activity and given the steep decline in tourist traffic, it posted a decline of 18.5% from 119,518 to 97,390 passengers.

The load factor has also improved from 68.1% in 2015 to 69.7% in 2016, i.e. a gain of 1.6 point, said the source.

In terms of the main markets of Tunisair, according to the geographical division and for regular traffic, the 13 European countries accounting for 73.7% saw their traffic increase by 5.6%.

8 African countries accumulating a share of 14.3%, posted a rise of 22.1%. For the remaining countries (Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt) and whose share is 11.5%, the increase was 8.3%, the statement indicated.
