Tunisia: unemployment falls to 15.3% in Q2

The number of unemployed in Tunisia is estimated at 626,100, at the end of the second quarter of the current year, against 653,200 in the first quarter.

To this effect, the unemployment rate is 15.3%, against 16.1% at the end of last March, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Monday.

The drop in the unemployment rate is more marked for men (13.1% against 14.1%) than for women (20.5% against 20.9%).

In the second quarter of the year, 37.2% of working people aged 15 to 24 were unemployed, compared with 38.5% in the first quarter of this year.

The unemployment rate is 37.4% among young men and 36.7% among young women.

The INS indicates that the active population was up at the end of June, standing at 4.08 million individuals against 4.04 million in the first quarter of the current year, an increase of 34,100 individuals.

This population is divided into 2.835 million men and 1.244 million women, 69% and 31% of the total workforce, respectively. This increase in the labor force during the second quarter of 2022 corresponds to a 0.4 percentage points rise in the labor force participation rate, which reached 46% of the working age population (over 15 years of age), compared with 45.6% in the previous quarter.
