Tunisia: UTICA Chairwoman stresses seriousness of economic situation

Chairwoman of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) Wided Bouchamaoui emphasized the seriousness of the economic situation in Tunisia, as a result of “the sit-ins and deliberate disruption of business activities.”

“Though businessmen have showed understanding of the workers’ legitimate demands, they do not rule out the existence of the risk of reduced jobs in several companies, if the situation remains the way it is,” warned, on Thursday, the chairwoman of the employers’ organization, at the opening of the 8th Congress of the Regional Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts.

The country needs to see a new government formed soon, she said, proposing a one-year “social truce” to prospect the best ways to revive the economic activity and attract the foreign direct investments.
