Tunisia: Chahed announces mega energy project of 2.5 billion dinars

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed announced at a meeting on renewable energies held Thursday in Gammarth the acceleration of the implementation of projects through the production of 1,000 megawatts by 2020, i.e. 1/5 of the installed capacity so far in the country.

The idea is to produce 650 megawatts of photovoltaic energy and 350 megawatts of wind energy.

The overall cost of this program, which is expected to start in 2018, is estimated at 2,500 million dinars. However, 210 MD will be mobilized in 2018.

The Prime Minister also announced that this project also focuses on reducing consumption from fossil fuels with the aim of reducing the deficit of the energy balance and lowering the subsidy in this area.

The goal is also to reduce the impact of gas emissions and protect the environment
