USAID to Host Signature Event “Partnering to End Extreme Poverty” at the U.N. General Assembly

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), along with world leaders and development partners will host a Signature Event “Partnering to End Extreme Poverty and Achieve the Global Goals” at the 70th United Nations General Assembly. On September 27th, Acting Administrator Ambassador Alfonso Lenhardt will deliver remarks to highlight how USAID will pursue the new approach to financing and development to end extreme poverty and achieve the “Global Goals” (or SDGs).

In line with the USG’s overarching imperatives for the Summit, this event will focus on partnerships to eradicate extreme poverty, which necessitates:

• Investing in people to complete the unfinished business of the MDGs;

• Transforming economies through rapid, inclusive, sustainable growth; and

• Building resilient, democratic societies underpinned by effective governance and accountable institutions.

As USAID regards itself as one of the premier development agencies in the world, this event will serve as the capstone to the U.S. government’s efforts to make development a top priority for both our national and international agenda, as well as to articulate our mission statement’s alignment with the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In conjunction, the event will be complemented by an Innovation Marketplace, featuring interactive examples of partnerships achieving ground-breaking results and dynamic entrepreneurs/innovators for the various pillars associated with eradicating extreme poverty.
