Bharti Airtel, an Indian telecommunications firm, said Thursday it had reached an agreement with Ericsson, to turn hundreds of its fuel-powered stations in Nigeria to solar power in a new drive to boost its “green energy” credentials.
The Indian firm, which has operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, said the contract with Ericsson – the world’s largest mobile telecommunications equipment vendor, would see the upgrade of 250 diesel-powered base stations in Nigeria.
“The ‘green’ mobile initiative announced today (Thursday) is yet another milestone in Airtel’s journey to deliver value to end users. This will improve operations and minimize its environmental impact,” the firm said in a statement Thursday.
