Algerian, Tunisian and Libyan businessmen “are invited to set up a tripartite council that would constitute a platform to promote the business climate and direct and indirect investment opportunities in each country,” said Algerian Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni.
He was speaking during a meeting with business operators from the wilayas of El Tarf and Annaba, as well as business leaders from the Tunisian governorates of Beja, Jendouba and Kef and their Libyan counterparts, in the large auditorium of Chadli Bendjedid University.
This platform would also be an effective mechanism for promoting trade, while stepping up the organization of conferences and exhibitions to forge fruitful partnerships to promote trade and economic exchanges beneficial to all three countries.
Zitouni added that his ministry “is working on the formation of a working group whose main task will be to take and monitor measures to overcome the difficulties hindering the movement of goods between the three countries and to explore ways of increasing the volume of trade while speeding up the establishment of joint free trade zones.
“What unites our three countries, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya, should increase the pace of interregional trade to the highest level, pave the way for the creation of common infrastructures for the development of border areas and lay solid foundations for economic integration, on which the countries of the world are counting to face all regional challenges,” he added.
The Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been given the task of organizing a forum for Algerian businessmen and their counterparts from the two countries to develop prospects for economic cooperation, create partnerships and activate joint business councils, particularly in the border municipalities. The latter are the most appropriate areas for meeting the aspirations of economic operators for promising commercial partnerships,” Zitouni further pointed out.
