Tunisian banks face many challenges, says Berrayana

Wassel Berrayana, founder of Proxym Group stated that the digitalization of banking services in Africa has seen significant development. 

Speaking on Express FM on Thursday, Berrayana emphasized that Tunisian banks face numerous challenges in their transition to digital compared to financial institutions in Africa and the rest of the world. 

Berrayana affirmed that banks can successfully get closer to their customers through digital transformation, highlighting the development of new electronic payment methods, such as BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later). 

He stressed the need to adopt a more advanced information system to enable effective digitalization of banking services. 

For context, Nizar Chaddad, Director General of Payments and Financial Inclusion at the Central Bank of Tunisia, confirmed that the digitalization process of the banking sector truly began during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the development of mobile payments and e-wallets.
