Tunisia: UTT demans pay rise

Rached Namouchi, deputy general secretary for the private sector of the Union of Tunisian Workers (UTT) told Mosaique FM on Monday that the UTT was demanding a pay rise for 2025 to offset the deterioration in workers’ purchasing power and called for negotiations to start as soon as possible.

He also called for an increase in the guaranteed minimum wage, while urging the government to control prices, which he described as unbearable, and to work towards regulating the market.

“The Tunisian worker is no longer able to cover his daily expenses (…) We are asking the employers’ organization to respond (…) We have tried to open a dialogue to examine these points, but we have received no response (…). We have even been clearly informed that it is only the UGTT that is concerned (…) unfortunately, in Tunisia we are not open to trade union pluralism,” he stressed.

Rached Namouchi also stressed the need to promulgate the law on the organization of labor contracts and the ban on subcontracting, and called for the involvement of the leaders of the UTT in the revision of the Labor Code.
