Tunisian passport ranked 71st worldwide in July 2025

British firm Henley & Partners, specializing in citizenship and residence planning, has just published its July update of the Henley Passport Index.

In this new edition, the Tunisian passport climbs to 71st place globally, providing access to 67 visa-free destinations. This marks a slight improvement, gaining two ranks compared to the previous update.

Note that this index provides a global ranking of passports based on exclusive data from Timatic, the database used by airlines and managed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Tunisia performs better than most of its neighbors

Compared to its neighbors, the Tunisian passport remains modestly ranked. While it is ranked lower than Morocco’s passport, which holds 67th place with visa-free access to 73 countries, it still outperforms several countries in the northern region.

Algeria, for example, is positioned 81st, with only 55 visa-free destinations. Mauritania is ranked 79th, offering access to 57 countries, while Egypt, even lower, ranks 85th with 49 destinations.

At the continental level, the ranking remains largely unchanged. As usual, the Seychelles retain their leader status with a passport offering visa-free access to 156 destinations, placing them 24th globally.

Mauritius follows closely, ranked 27th with 149 accessible destinations. Next are South Africa, 48th globally (103 destinations), Botswana (59th, 85 destinations), and Namibia, which rounds out the African top 5 with 79 destinations and a 63rd global rank.

In the MENA region, Saudi Arabia enters the global top 10 of the most powerful passports, in 8th position, with access to 184 countries visa-free or with visa-on-arrival. Behind it are Qatar (47th, 112 destinations) and Kuwait (50th, 100 destinations).

Globally, the top of the ranking remains dominated by the same heavyweights.

Singapore retains its first-place position with a passport granting access to 193 visa-free destinations. It is followed very closely by Japan and South Korea, with 190 destinations each.

In third place, a group of European countries share the same rank with 189 accessible destinations: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain.

At the opposite end, and at the bottom of the ranking, the weakest passports mostly belong to countries weakened by prolonged conflicts or chronic instability. Afghanistan is last, with only 25 visa-free destinations. It is preceded by Syria (27), Iraq (30), Yemen, Somalia, and Pakistan (32).
