Tunisia: Remittances from Tunisians abroad reach €1.7 billion by end August

Remittances from Tunisians living abroad continued their upward trend in 2025.

According to data published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), these transfers amounted to 5.787 billion dinars at the end of August, compared with 5.344 billion dinars during the same period in 2024, representing an increase of more than 8% year-on-year.

Expressed in euros, the amount of funds transferred by expats rose to €1.7 billion (with the average monthly exchange rate over the first eight months of the year at €1 = 3.406 dinars).

This development confirms the strategic role played by diaspora transfers in supporting the national economy, particularly in financing the balance of payments and strengthening the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

Despite an uncertain international context marked by global economic tensions and inflation, Tunisians abroad continue to demonstrate strong solidarity with their families and with their country of origin.

In addition to their significant role in financing the national economy, these remittances also represent an essential source of revenue for many Tunisian households, contributing to supporting consumption and easing social pressures.

For comparison, expat remittances in 2024 had reached 7.6 billion dinars by the end of the year, confirming their steadily growing importance in strengthening Tunisia’s foreign currency reserves.

With this positive dynamic, remittances from the diaspora remain one of the most stable pillars of Tunisia’s external resources, in a context where the country is seeking to diversify its sources of revenue and strengthen its economic resilience.
