Expo 2025 Osaka: Over half a million visitors at Tunisian pavilion

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as Expo 2025 Osaka heads toward the conclusion of its current edition on October 13, the Tunisian national pavilion continues to attract large crowds.

Thousands of visitors, mostly Japanese and Asian, flock to the pavilion to enjoy authentic culinary specialties.

Since the opening of the Osaka Expo last April, the Tunisian pavilion has welcomed over 570,000 visitors, according to Pavilion Director Sami Hassene.

As the event nears its end, Tunisia chose to celebrate its tourism through Tunisian Tourism and Handicrafts Days, held from September 29 to October 1, 2025. These festive days featured musical performances and handicraft exhibitions.

In front of the pavilion, Tunisian artisans from various disciplines (ceramics, pottery, plant extraction, etc.) showcased their know-how to curious visitors.

Among them was an artisan from Djerba representing the “House of Arts and Crafts of Djerba,” founded in 2012 to promote crafts made from recycled materials (old doors, shells, fragments of faience, palm wood, etc.).

His environmental awareness impressed many Japanese visitors who spent time admiring his creations.

Another exhibitor, a young pottery artisan from Nabeul, turned his booth into a training workshop for numerous Japanese youth eager to learn his craft.

Other artisans were also highly sought-after, and their creations amazed a public eager for diversity.

Just a few meters away, the National Pavilion stands as a living echo of Tunisia, blending delicacy and strength.

Its facade combines the purity of jasmine, a symbol of hospitality, with the strength of authentic mosaic, set on a scarlet red base that merges Tunisian and Japanese colors.

The pavilion’s architecture invites visitors on an immersive cultural journey, celebrating a country that looks to the future while remaining true to its deep roots.

Inside, ancestral culinary treasures crafted with passion and respect for nature captivated visitors — many of whom returned several times a day to relive the experience.

Upon leaving, visitors walk through a jasmine garden, Tunisia’s iconic symbol, a final memory of a country that has always championed openness and diversity.

From April 13 to October 13, 2025, Osaka hosts Expo 2025 on the artificial island of Yumeshima under the theme: “Designing Future Society and Imagining Our Life of Tomorrow.”

The Expo is expected to welcome around 28 million visitors, including 3.5 million foreigners, with 158 countries participating, the highest number of participants in the history of world expos held in Japan.
