Head of the “Hub National Blue Economy” – WestMed Initiative, Imed Zammit said on Thursday one of the key outcomes of the annual international conference of the Mediterranean Initiative for the Development of a Sustainable Blue Economy, hosted for the first time in Tunisia, was the agreement to establish an incubator dedicated to startups operating in the blue economy sector.
He added, in a statement to the National Radio, that the aim of creating this incubator is to support and assist entrepreneurs in the blue economy and help them secure funding for their projects.
Zammit also noted that the framework for establishing a specialized authority on the blue economy was set, with its launch planned for 2026, to provide guidance and support to project developers in the field.
He emphasized that Tunisia has all the assets to become a leader in the blue economy, particularly in terms of laws and regulations, having ratified most of the international conventions related to the maritime sector.
He also stressed the need to instill a maritime culture among young people from the early stages of education and to raise awareness about the importance of preserving marine resources.
