Tunisian renewable energy company ZWINERGIE has obtained an operating permit for a 1 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in the El Hamma delegation, Gabes governorate, according to an official decree published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Tunisia (JORT).
The authorization, signed by Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy on April 17, 2026, falls under Tunisia’s regulatory framework for renewable electricity production.
The plant will inject its output directly into the national grid operated by STEG, with no industrial self-consumption, a model designed to boost available capacity and diversify the country’s energy mix.
The permit is valid for 20 years starting February 5, 2026, and is renewable subject to compliance with Tunisia’s renewable energy regulations.
ZWINERGIE specializes in developing small-scale, grid-connected photovoltaic units. The Gabes facility is a modest-sized, decentralized project aimed at harnessing southern Tunisia’s high solar potential and gradually increasing the share of renewables in the national power supply.
Industry observers note that El Hamma remains one of the least equipped areas for renewable power generation, making ZWINERGIE’s initiative a pioneering, locally anchored venture.
The project aligns with Tunisia’s strategy of integrating small and medium‑capacity solar plants into the national grid, with private operators playing an increasingly central role.
