Minister of Trade Samir Abid said that Africa is emerging as one of the world’s most dynamic regions for digital trade.
Speaking on Tuesday during national consultations on Tunisia’s National E-Commerce Strategy, Abid noted that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) opens up historic opportunities for Tunisian businesses in a market of more than 1.4 billion consumers.
“Thanks to its geographic location, human capital, and privileged ties with Africa, Europe and the Arab world, Tunisia has the necessary assets to become a regional platform for digital trade, connecting these different economic spaces,” he said.
He added that the strategy must enable Tunisia to fully seize these opportunities and strengthen its position within regional and international value chains.
“It must also ensure that the benefits of this transformation reach all regions of the country, young people, women and all economic stakeholders,” he stressed.
Abid further emphasized that the National E-Commerce Strategy being developed today is not merely a sectoral planning document.
“It is part of a broader ambition to build a modern, innovative, competitive, and sovereign Tunisia that is fully engaged in the knowledge economy. The choices we make today will help shape the Tunisian economy of the next decade,” the minister said.
