Container Port Performance Index 2025:: Rades 238th Globally

The World Bank has released the fifth edition of its Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) for 2025, developed in partnership with S&P Global Market Intelligence.

The index evaluates 405 container ports worldwide based on a key metric: vessel turnaround time. Its methodology draws on a massive database covering approximately 175,000 ship calls across 405 ports, representing nearly 247 million container movements globally.

The index deliberately excludes bulk, hydrocarbon, and passenger terminals, which operate under different logistics models. It focuses exclusively on container ports, where speed and transit efficiency directly impact the competitiveness of global supply chains.

Rades Port inches forward

After ranking 251st globally in the 2024 edition, the port of Radès (Tunisia) climbed 13 places in the 2025 overall ranking to reach 238th position.

The port shows a berth utilization rate of 82%, relatively high in the regional context. The assessment is based on a sample of 143 ship calls used to measure its performance in international logistics chains.

In terms of indicators, the port recorded a 3.3% increase in its administrative index, though it remains at -5.3. These two metrics compare port performance to a global average: the first reflects operational efficiency, while the second evaluates organization and administrative management. Negative values indicate performance below the global benchmark.

Two North African ports in global top 20

Globally, the World Bank report highlights 20 top-performing ports. Among them, two African ports – both located in North Africa – stand out as internationally ranked leaders:

– Tangier Med (Morocco) ranks 6th globally, making it the most efficient port on the African continent with a score of 134 points (down from 136 points in the previous edition).

– Port Said (Egypt) ranks 15th globally with a score of 117 points.

Asian ports dominate top 20

As in previous years, Asian ports overwhelmingly dominate the remainder of the top 20, confirming their supremacy in global port performance.

The world’s most efficient container port is Fuzhou (China) with 145 points, followed by Dalian (China) with 141 points, and Salalah (Oman) with 136 points. Chinese ports Mawan and Chowan complete the top five with 135 and 134 points, respectively.

After Tangier Med in 6th place, the top ten is rounded out by Ningbo (China) with 130 points, Hamad Port (Qatar) with 129 points, as well as Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of China) and Kobe (Japan), both on 123 points.
