A professor at the International University of Brazzaville, Congo, Ignace Kissangou, has deplored Africa’s weak system of industrialization, saying “this has undermined the true emergence of the continent”.
Speaking during the third congress of African economists, under the theme “African industrialization and economic emergence”, Prof. Kissangou said Africa is widely characterized by a zone of long-term production and productivity stagnation with important sector imbalances resulting in the decline of the agricultural, agro-industrial sectors and weak industrialization process.
He deplored the instability in the prices of cotton and the weak strategies and reforms for making the African product more competitive in the world market.
The African economists’ conference which kicked off Wednesday in Dakar, is jointly organized by the African Union Commission and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)
It brought together about 150 economists from Africa and the Diaspora who are tasked with identifying and analyzing the economic problems currently confronting the African continent.
The experts will also recommend solutions to the problems
