AfDB to help Senegal boost employment

The African Development Bank (AfDB) will strengthen its cooperation with Senegal by supporting the West African country’s employment policy for young people and women, bank President Donald Kaberuka said after a meeting with Senegalese President Macky Sall at the end of a 3-day working visit to the country.

“With President Macky Sall, we mostly talked about the need to create jobs for young people. In collaboration with the State of Senegal, AfDB wants to roll out projects that impacts on the vast majority of the Senegalese population,” Kaberuka said Tuesday in Dakar, the nation’s capital.

AfDB’s total commitments for Senegal are estimated at about US$1.71356 billion.

The continental bank and Senegal have a long history of cooperation dating back to 1972.

Last December, the AfDB Board of Directors approved CFA F 53.7 billion (about US$100 million) for the construction of a bridge over the Gambia River
